When we bought our first home, we started with a realtor who was recommended to us by our credit union. We went along as choosing her means getting some financial incentive. However, we soon realized that we weren't getting the help we needed to find a home. Bear in mind, we were first time home buyers and weren't familiar with the process. To say the least, the realtor assigned to us was unresponsive to our queries and never called to pitch an idea or provide advice. Instead, we were left with a barrage of home listings without a clue on where to start. Remember, first time home buyers are apprehensive. It helps for someone to at least call them to make that first step. We didn't get that with our first realtor. To make it short, we ditched her.

Enter Betsy, she was highly recommended to us by our landlord, who by the way was a previous realtor. Our landlord had told me how he'd interviewed numerous realtors to sell one of his properties and was impressed by how intelligent, thorough and analytic Betsy was. From start to finish, Betsy provided a lot of home buying advice and for me it was a great learning experience. On the road, she'd teach us about the home buying process and would go through each step making sure we understand. House searching with Betsy is not a just a simple matter of visiting a house. She looks at a house and can tell you in details what is right and wrong with it. She'll discuss pros and cons, location, associated cost, layout, possible improvements down the line and even feng shui (if you are into that thing). House hunting, which I thought would be a "necessary evil" turned out to be a pleasurable experience.

Betsy Heller is a great agent! I was looking for a second house as a rental property when I stumbled into one of her open houses. We got to talking and it was obvious from the beginning that she knew what she was talking about and had experience in investment real estate. Not only was I new to the investment side of real estate, I was using my VA loan to do it! She expertly explained to me what characteristics a good rental property needs to have and what to watch out for. She had been to many of the properties on the MLS list in my price range and could narrow down the list of possible properties that would make a good rental. She never pressured me on any house, she actually constantly pointed out flaws or drawbacks that I hadn’t noticed and she only had my best interest at heart. After we found a property she spent days negotiating price and repairs with a less than professional selling agent. There were many opportunities for her to decide it wasn’t worth her time and energy and tell me that I had to agree to their deal or walk, but she never did. UPDATE: Betsy and her team have been managing the rental property for over a year now. It has been great for both me and the tenant. Everyone has been kept in the loop and there haven't been any surprises for either party. When a repair needs to be done I'm notified and, if I have the time and know how, I can fix it myself, (more often than not I don't!) or since they have a great general contractor and a long list of tried and true professionals, I have them take care of it. All repairs to date have been completed quickly and at a reasonable cost. Using Betsy and her team to manage your property allows you to be as "hands on" or as "hands off" as you want to be. I met Betzy at an Open House in Alpine. I fell in love with the house. I did not have an agent at the time. I liked her professionalism and the fact that she was not pushy yet very informative. A year has almost passed since closing on my property. Looking back, I am in awe at the whole process and only regret that it took me this long to provide a review.
